ОтветитьMy mums first cousin JERROLD SMITH was a spitfire pilot during WW2 (with the Royal Canadian Airforce) he was in the Malta Missions on the USS Wasp. As they were all taking off, his plane's auxilary (slipper) tank malfunctionioned (the extra tank that carried the fuel to get him to his destination) and he asked permission to land and got permission. Now, at this time, Spitfires could take off from Air craft carriers but could not land due to their speed. He was given permission to try and he had to try twice and on the 2nd attempt he landed perfectly within 15 feet of the end of the deck WITHOUT ANY ARRESTING GEAR!. He was awarded accolades and things. I am just watching these massively fast planes come in and I am blown away... He was later MIA over Malta. He was only like 22-23 when he did that.!

ОтветитьAww it left out the best part. The pilot must dump the fuel they have so that if a crash happens ot minimizes the damage, so they only get two or three tries nefore they have to bail.
Ответитьhe's not following instructions from the control tower, he's following instructions from the LSO (Landing Signal Officer) or "paddles". Please, if you're going to pretend to be an authority on something, at least study up on it.
