Every time Emma starts speaking my head just involuntarily starts nodding.
For so many years I felt that feminism was something I could not participate in that I wasn't allowed to have a voice. That putting my voice and thoughts on the matter in to the debate would be akin to another form of masculine assertion. That by somehow participating I would be telling women what feminism should be.
It is only in the last few years that I have come to realise that my own social anxiety is a product of not fitting into the masculine mold, that I was also a victim of gender inequality. That feminism is about dispelling these expectations from all people based on their biology and allowing us to do as we feel is right for us. To forge our identity in a society that treats us as people not binaries.

Growing up in regional Australia, I came from a place where expectations of people based on their genders was absurd bordering on caricature. That because I was emotive, sensitive and interested in art meant I was homosexual and as such open to ridicule. It is so sad that this perpetuation of stereotype has forced men to box themselves up and ridicule anyone who does what they do not allow themselves to do. It is almost as if there is a subconscious assertion motivating this stereotype perpetuation and it is: "If I have to fit the mold society has put on me, then so do you".
The wonderful thing is, we don't. None of us do. Not at all.

I love the message of this campaign and Emma is a wonderful spokes person. When feminism is a thing of the past and she is the spokes person for the 'UN Equality Agency', I think the campaign should be called MeForYou.

Literally think Emma Watson should be president of the United States or something, even though she's not even a citizen. She's truly amazing!

Feminism a movement specifically created to deliberately ostracise 50% of the entire globe! Even Hitler never went that far, nor Stalin, nor Gaddafi, nor Pot, nor Amin, nor Mugabe, nor Pinochet, nor Taylor, nor Hussein, nor Ceausescu that is one hell of a record.

Are women being paid the same? Pretty sure they are, otherwise there'd be an absolute landslide of civil litigation. ;)

Oh wow. When Emma talked about chivalry, I totally know what she meant. I opened a door for a guy friend of mine and he looked at me SO weird! -- like "what the hell are you doing?" Like, me opening the door for him de-masculinized him or something.

I've been trying to get stuff out like this for a while. I see gender inequality (yes, GIRLS AND BOYS) every day at school. I'm so glad that Emma is speaking up about this subject because it's so commonly over looked. Yes I stand for both genders. I realize that men are getting raped and if they don't have this macho man thing, they aren't considered a man, but people can't just look at men and I'm not saying they can only look at women. Women are usually seen as lesser I watched a buzzfeed video that said that women in the film industry get paid 2 million dollars less than men and that 73% of the people in the film industry are males. If I had a nickel for every time I saw a guy wearing a shirt saying "Cool babe, now shut up and go make me a sandwich." I would have a lot of money. In no way am I saying that one gender should be stronger than the other. A lot of people in these comments are dogging women because they don't want them to be more powerful then men. That's not what feminists are saying and if people are saying those things then that's basically saying that men are already more powerful then women. That's not how it should be. We should all be equal. Yes I want there to be a change about the rape percentages with males and with how they're looked at based on how they describe women, but women are getting raped too, women are getting paid less, women are being told they can't do certain things like play sports or do certain jobs. It's time to take a stand for both genders. For gender equality. For equality just in general.

First of all, I instantly don't trust this vid just because of the ratings being disabled. This leaves me to believe that even comments will be censored if the video owner does not like what it says.

I don't really like how Emma acknowledges that feminism is synonymous with "man hating" but just shrugs it off saying "that's just wrong" instead of going into why it is seen that way and how to change that.

I also do not agree with that definition of feminist,(if you believe in equal rights between genders) See that is a huge problem we are having. If that was the definition of a feminist, then YES I would be a feminist, but that is not how feminism is used at all by most feminists.

It's all focusing entirely on womens issues, and even issues that are cross gender, you again just focus on the women, that is not equality. That is focusing only on the issues of half the species.

That is why it is hard to connect with feminism in anyway, because it's so focused on only women and shrugs off any conversation about men unless it is "men need to change to be more like women."

It's hard to dislike Emma in this though, she honestly sounds legit and perhaps it's a cultural thing, but what she is talking about sounds different than what I'm use to hearing, It actually sounds like she heard another perspective before.

at least it sounds like she is doing something in some places where it might be needed, unlike what I have been seeing recently in America where a feminist activist comes included with her own patreon account and victim complex.

Most of the commenter's need to educate themselves on what feminism actually means. All feminists want is equality for all. So people say 'but we have equality'. Oh, do we? I wonder how many times men get stalked and followed by women calling profanities after them and making them feel unsafe? I wonder how many times women get ridiculed for showing emotion because it's not a 'womanly' thing to do? I wonder why there are still countries where women are seen as objects and sold even as children. You're right. Equality is so here.

One of the things I noticed watching this video was the fact the interviewer said "I'm a massive softie" I think referring to him caring about women's equality. And I think that's sort of the root towards the whole issue and that men believe it's almost seen as a weakness to care about these things and to stand up for it. I think those ideas are the things that we need to change and show boys at a young age that to stand up for these things is not a weakness and rather a strength.

Anyone who does not agree with her are jerks beacause she is correct. Woman need to have the same equal rights of men. Plus woman always have to put up with us men's stuff. I guess what I am saying is that Emma Watson is right and that us men and woman need to support the HeForShe program.

By the way Emma watson you are very beautiful, even though you probably will not see this.

Todah Raba for posting this! I can finally watch this belatedly. :D  Speaking about men's masculity - Its outrageous how if you are allergic the Meats and Poultry you can't marry because almost all men who thought they wanted to date me said they couldn't give up meat and poultry. In effect, saying that my life was not worth it and that I should die or never find love. I am 50 years old and will never marry a man because of their arrogant behavior banned me from marrying. As a Messianic Jewish Believer, I was very tempted to take Jesus and become a Lesbian and parade her all over the churches filled with White discriminatory men and show her off and tell them what they made me become, but I'd feel I would be using her, which is something I am 100% against. Besides, it is their loss if they don't want me. I don't need a bloody git in my life to be happy. I can do everything me myself and I without a silly sheet of paper giving me permission to do that. I've done a 28 day solo camping trip all by myself! I didn't have a man who was man enough to come with me. They were too chicken.

Women in film don't feel like they need permission to tell their stories. Executives and producers wont fund films made by women because of the system  in which they have lived; male executives don't understand why films about women would be successful. But we've seen it happen! The Hunger Games is a story about a girl, Orange is the New Black is all about women of many races and backgrounds, and when there are female characters in male-dominated films (the Avengers for example) women latch onto them and love them. It has to do with men being in power and not understanding what they're doing.

Math Made Fun
Math Made Fun - 10.03.2015 19:37

I'm confused often by the nature of this campaign. He -- for -- She?

I personally believe that women should prove themselves equally capable through action and by doing so, everyone will see they are capable and deserving of equal rights and rights will be given. In Iceland, in 1975, women did this by en-mass, walking away from household and workplace duties for one day. The ENTIRE COUNTRY's women striked for one day. The result was within a year, women's equal pay was given under law. They proved just how important they were to society through action and the society responded by legislation guaranteeing equal pay.

Interestingly though, the wage gap is largely considered a myth by economists whom are responsible for -- you know -- studying the economy and is primarily a result of women's choices in lifestyle.

Equal rights for equal responsibility. Prove you deserve it and need it -- by yourself. I believe in proving one's own worth and capability. I would never ask for my brother to prove I am good at math nor my boss nor my sister. I would prove it by performing difficult math problems; by achieving good marks in calculus courses, by going to university and getting a degree in mathematics. All of which, I have done.

If women are equally capable, why do they need Men to fight their equality movement? Women are the majority of voters in elections have the greatest sway in the election of politicians. Emma stone notes that 77% of parliament members are male; and women are electing these 77% though. Should perhaps women be voting in more female politicans being the majority of voters and more women running for office if she wants 50% female politicans?  Emma Watson, herself, is privileged with enough money to do any job she wants. Why not run for office?

She mentions 6% of CEOs are women.  Ohh no!  She fails to mention 6% of women are garbage collectors. Why does this movement only focus on the most successful men and ignore poor men? Does the much larger number of homeless man's issues not matter compared to the small number of CEO jobs somehow? Equal pay for women under the law has been guaranteed in every western country for over 30 years and some as many as over 75 years.

Why don't we call the movement AllForAll rather than HeForShe?
