I would agree with the last part, but what I hear is that a lot of people are annoyed with the fact that it didn’t live up to the expectations of the first 6 movies and now we know that episode 7,8 and 9 were meant to be way different

Yes dude, the urge of fans to constantly speculate makes them want things to go in one direction. Nobody wants to be surprised at the movies anymore. TLJ did very unique things and strayed away from what was done before but did fans want that ? No ! The fans just want the watch the same thing over and over again. The force awakens followed almost the same template to the OG star wars and people loved it. But as soon as you deviate from the story and characters a bit you receive backlash. The reason critics like it is because they want to see something new.
If you dont believe this another example is the alien franchise. As soon as Ridley Scott attempted a different vision with Prometheus, Alien fans were like this is a new and original story we don't want it. Give us the same thing over and over again with slight modifications. Thats why covenant suffered.

If watching a film theory video makes people like your movie less, than it's a bad movie. A good movie is improved by over analyzation, not brought down by it.

When I watched the force awaken at the theatre I loved it so much that I went back again a week later

But that was a long long time ago and it was also the second last Star Wars movie I went to see at a theatre

Because I was the biggest fan of Star Wars after my dad made me watch his special edition VHS of the original triology I became obsessed by Star Wars and the last Star Wars movie I watch at the theatre was Rogue One

Because I started hating Star Wars very very hard and I still don’t know why

I only started liking Star Wars again one or two years ago

Before that I would literally get mad at the simple mention of anything remotely Star Wars related

And it’s only recently that I started hating the force awaken even tho I loved it

The theories destroyed my enjoyment of that movies and I’m not mad about it

I just watched all of star wars for the first time this month. My friends didnt warn me or anything. Tho they did praise the original trilogy (what made me want to get into star wars in the first place) I didn't think that last jedi was amazing but I didn't hate it eaither. Later on my friends told me how horrible it was over and over and I found my opinion change. Now I suddenly dislike it more than I did when I watched it alone with no spoilers. Popular oppion played quite the role for me.

It baffles me how they didn't have a plan for this trilogy. How do you take a beloved franchise with decades of lore and NOT have a plan? You can want money, Disney, and still make something interesting, well-thought out, and exciting to fans.

Honestly I love this. I've always kinda thought that we don't seem to actually see Han do a ton of piloting. Some sure bit not a lot. The only thing we ever actually see us that Han is such an amazing smooth talker. Which carries. He's given himself this huge amount of fame from all these things he has probably talked up from what actually happened.

I both agree and disagree with MatPat about our ability to set aside preconceived notions when watching movies or TV.
He's right, in that even when we say we won't let our biases affect our reactions to a movie affect us, it still will.
But, as a fanfiction addict who usually doesn't see movies till after they reach the rental release stage, I've had to teach myself to mentally categorize any movie as an AU. Granted, it's a official AU/variant. But, I know and expect going into it that it's going to be different. Especially since I try to read most author's notes saying what they changed in their itineration of it and their rational for doing so.
Which usually means yes, the movie has been spoiled to heck and back.

Bro it’s not your fault I took your theory on last Jedi as a lighthearted “this would be cool” moment l. The real issue was that Disney ruined the way Hyperspace travel worked in their bs retcon, as well as the fact 60% of the movie revolved around a pointless oceans 11 in space rip off while the other 40% was a boring episode of Star Trek where the crew is stuck in the delta quadrant and the fact the lady in charge was a worse leader than Janeway.
